Port High Likely to Expand Tech Program, Adding Teacher Part of Plans

The Port Washington-Saukville School Board Personnel and Programs Committee offered support of a roughly $160,000 investment in the technology programs offered at Port High.

Port Washington-Saukville school officials are continuing their commitment to science and technology curriculum with plans for a roughly $160,000 investment to programs at the high school. The School Board Personnel and Programs and Committee met on Monday night to discuss the plans to hire an additional teacher in the tech department for the 2013-14 school year, as well as launch a biomedical sciences course, according to an Ozaukee Press article. Investments in technology upgrades as well as the cost of the teacher would add up to about $160,000, the article said, and the additional teacher will allow more students to take the class. The Port Washington-Saukville School District's STEM program is branching out, adding a robotics team and with a growing advisory board, furthering efforts to better prepare its students for life after graduation.

Recognizing changing trends in technology and employment opportunities, the Port Washington-Saukville School District is branching out its efforts to better prepare its students for life after graduation. The district is in its third year of being a part of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Forward program — and the initiative's offerings are growing. School District Signs on to New Technology in Classroom

Fifth- through eighth-grade classes will get 210 Apple iPads and netbooks; the schools will also add an technology education specialist.

Port Washington and Saukville students are about to get more advanced — technologically. The School Board approved the addition of 210 Apple iPads and netbooks for students and teachers; the district also plans to create a new position for a technology education specialist, according to the Ozaukee Press. The iPads will be used in fifth- through eighth-grade communications classes, according to the article. The netbooks will be used in fifth- through seventh-grade math classes. I think they may control the content. Maybe they can teach the students to use resources the correct way. When I was in school we screwed around in the library, you did not see them get rid of the library.   more ›
