Fatal Overdose Leads to Charges Filed in Ozaukee County

A 24-year-old Milwaukee man faces felony charges for homicide and delivering drugs in the death of a 24-year-old Grafton man earlier this year.

A series of text messages between an Ozaukee County man and an alleged drug dealer have led to homicide charges in connection with the area man's fatal overdose. Joshua Gray, 24, of Milwaukee, was charged in Ozaukee County Court on Monday with felony charges of first-degree reckless homicide and delivering drugs. If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison and fines of $100,000. A $75,000 cash bond was set during his initial appearance on Monday. The victim, Riley Knapp of Grafton, was found unresponsive when a friend stopped by to check on Knapp after not hearing from him for some time at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 3, according to the criminal complaint. Heroin Use in Ozaukee County at 'All-Time High'

Ozaukee County Sheriff's annual report points to a 133 percent increase in heroin from 2009 to 2010. Numbers for 2011 were likely higher, and it's not just youth that are the problem.

Ozaukee County has for years battled upward trends in the use of heroin — a drug that isn’t just detrimental for the user, but to the entire county — but has never experienced trafficking and abuse at levels as high as they are now, according to law enforcement with the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office. The amount of heroin ceased by police in 2010 was up 133 percent from 2009, and could be even higher this year, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office annual report. This is a good article and calls out the danger of heroin in communities. I have been followinging this story and don't believe the Judicial system is on board with helping the communities. Judge Malloy and the prosecuter gave Stephanie F Bailey a slap on the wrist with a 45 day sentence for felony drug possesion. Stephanie F Bailey did not loose custody of her child as a result of her acitons. …   more ›
