Port Couple Wins Packers-Autographed Car

With more than 11,000 entries, Jerry and Jean Gruen of Port Washington beat the odds to win the 2013 Dodge Dart from the Darrow Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Milwaukee; the car's rear deck lid was signed by ten Packers players.

Inspired by what was then football season as well as the "diehard" Packers fanbase, Mike Darrow of the auto dealership based in Menomonee Falls came up with a promotion idea that ultimately landed one Port Washington couple a brand new car. Jerry and Jean Gruen of Port Washington are now driving a 2013 Dodge Dart after winning the "Chariots for Champions" contest. The car is signed on its rear deck lid by 10 Packers players: Randall Cobb, DJ Smith, Ryan Taylor, Tim Masthay, Desmond Bishop, TJ Lang, Jermichael Finley, James Jones, Bryan Bulaga and John Kuhn, according to a press release from the business. For 11 weeks, a Packers player drove a different car from the dealership during a given week; the 12th week Russ Darrow himself drove a …

But, if you're not ready to write — then catch up on this week's most popular reads: Gun control: Recently, state rep. Tamara Grigsby (D-Milwaukee) issued a response about gun control laws, but blogger Matt Stevens says he only agrees with her on one point — that the gun laws are flawed — but not for the same reasons. Read his open response to Grigsby's Call for Gun Control. Players Charlie Peprah, Jordy Nelson and Mason Crosby are among the celebrity faces involved in the 4-day tour that includes a local stop to benefit Portal, Inc., a nonprofit that serves adults with disabilities living in Ozaukee County.

Port Washington and Saukville residents have the chance to get up close and personal with a handful of current and former Packers team members during an event held at Grafton High School on May 18. Portal Inc. — a nonprofit that serves adults with disabilities living in Ozaukee County — was chosen to host the event next weekend as one of five stops on the "Packers Tailgate Tour," according to an article on the team's official website, Packers.com.  Portal Inc. serves 220 individuals with disabilities, with 49 percent of those individuals residing in Port Washington, Saukville, Belgium and Fredonia, said Marlene Morgan of Portal Inc. 34% of Patch Readers Don't Care Who Wins Super Bowl — Do You?

Eighteen percent of Patch readers want the New York Giants to win the Super Bowl, despite the fact that team is the reason the Packers didn't make the cut.

By now, most Wisconsinites have finally come to terms with the fact that Sundays are no longer set aside for Green and Gold football games (until next season.) But fans will have one more chance to catch some of their favorite players in action this Sunday during the NFL's Pro Bowl game, including Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Fullback John Kuhn, Wide Receiver Gregg Jennings, Center Scott Wells, Lineman B.J. Raji, Linebacker Clay Matthews and Cornerback Charles Woodson. (See entire Pro Bowl roster here.) Packers players were not a part of the Pro Bowl last year in anticipation of the Super Bowl — a situation that offers some confused reactions from players involved. "I was actually really good ... Thursday, Friday, Saturday — starting to kind…

POLL: With the Packers Gone, Does the Big Game Matter?

For those Wisconsinites still suffering from the delusion that the Packers have a chance to make the Super Bowl, it's time to face the facts.

It was a horrible way to go out, but indeed the Packers 2011-12 season ended with a painful 20-37 loss to the New York Giants. To add insult to injury, the Giants are now continuing on to Super Bowl 46, facing the New England Patriots in the Feb. 6 game. Back in November, Patch posted a poll asking readers about their confidence level in the Green and Gold. With 103 votes, 90 percent of Patch readers said that the Packers were heading to the Super Bowl; 67 percent thought they might lose a game or two — but still make it — while 23 percent thought the team would get there undefeated. A mere 1 person voted that the team would screw up somewhere in the playoffs. (Editor's note: Poll results as of 1 p.m. Monday; this is not a scientific poll…

Packers Photog Sees Super Bowl as Possibility

Port Washington resident and Packers photographer Jim Biever dishes on his experiences watching the undefeated team from the sidelines.

While the Packers have put up an undefeated season this year, Packers photographer and Port Washington resident Jim Biever said the team hasn't really let it go to their heads. "I’m not sure that that’s all sunk into them," he said. "They kid around a lot, have a lot of fun, (there) doesn’t seem to be a lot of pressure. I think that that undefeated type of season record is not even in their minds." For more than 30 years, Biever has spent most Sundays working as an official photographer for the NFL team. Biever has made it to all of the games this year, and said the teams strong playing has made for some good shots. His photos appear weekly on the team's official website. "A game like in San Diego last week, with that much scoring going on…

Poll: Can the Packers Keep Up the Winning Streak?

The Packers have kept their fans happy so far this year, but can that trend continue?

Despite the Packers' undefeated record this season, it seems there have been plenty of moments when fans are wondering whether their green and gold is actually going to make it happen. Sunday's defeat of the San Diego Chargers also included a team record for the Packers: the first time the team has scored more than 24 points for 8 consecutive games, according to game day announcers. A list of Packers' individual and team records can be downloaded from the team's website. Things seem to be looking good, but there's really no reason to jinx the team. What do you think will happen the rest of the season?
