Area Road Closures on Sunday Due to Lakefront Marathon

About 2,500 runners will hit the streets on Sunday for the 32nd annual Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon, and that means some area road closures, too. Plus, check out who's joining from Port Washington and Saukville. Good luck!

About 2,500 runners will hit the streets on Sunday for the 32nd annual Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon, and that means some area road closures, too. The run starts at the Grafton High School, 1950 Washington St., meaning area drivers should be aware of road closures in the town of Grafton, according to a press release from the Ozaukee County Sherrif's Office. The route travels south from the high school, turning east on Cheyenne Avenue and then east on Falls Road to County Highway C, the release said. The runners then travel south to Pioneer Road and take Lake Shore Drive to Mequon. The race starts at 7:30 and closures will likely last two hours, the release said. Of the 2,500 runners, 20 are from the Port Washington and Saukville area. Here'…

'Idle' No More: Patch Editor Joins Ironman Challenge

The weather outside is, well — delightful — but that still hasn't been enough motivation to get some exercise in.

I love this mild winter for a lot of reasons. Minimal car scraping has occurred, I have not once touched a shovel (my landlord plows the driveway) and the usual take-five-hours-to-bundle-up-before-heading-out practice has rarely been applied. It has also allowed me to get outside for more runs, rather than be strapped to a treadmill logging miles. And that's important, because I am training for my second half-marathon with plans to again participate in the Green Bay Cellcom event, this year on May 20. That being said, I'm still lacking in motivation to get enough runs in to properly train for this race. My excuse? Well, let's see. I'm participating in a full-time online Master's degree program, continuing my day-to-day as a full-time …

I hate to swim, too! But, I figured ... its 2.4 miles ... that's not really that far if you stretch it out over a month's time. Plus, it's not really that I hate to swim but that I am BAD at it so ... maybe I'll get better?   more ›

Line Up for Saukville Family 5K on Saturday

Sign up until race day for 2nd annual event that benefits the Saukville Chamber, Elementary School.

A change of pace is the strategy to bring runners and walkers out for the 2nd annual Saukville Family 5K Run/Walk on Saturday. After several years of low attendance for the Saukville Family Fun Night event, the Saukville Chamber of Commerce decided to take a step in a different direction with the run/walk event. “I enjoyed organizing family fun day, but with the poor weather, lack of volunteers and lack of attendance I think it just got old," said Stacey Frey, the Executive Director for the Saukville Chamber of Commerce. "We couldn’t think of ways to bring people in.” Chamber members assembled the first Saukville Family 5k Run/Walk in 2010. "Last year we decided to organize it. I had become a runner at that point, so I thought it was a …

An Early Start for Fish Day

Buttons still available to purchase for Fish Day main stage, and the carnival opens tonight. Plus, Patch will be part of the early morning 2-Mile Walk.

With a day filled with fried fish and other deliciously unhealthy festival foods coming on Saturday, it's a good thing Port Washington Fish Day also offers a way to get some morning exercise to get those metabolisms going. Patch will be joining those kicking off the festival with some early morning activity by participating in the 2-Mile Walk. There is also a 2-mile Fun Run, and an 8K Competive Run in the morning. There's still time to save $1 on the commemorative Fish Day button — which also acts as your ticket to the Main Stage to see Patty Smyth and Scandal. The buttons can be purchased from several area businesses for $2, and will be sold on the grounds Saturday at the Information booth for $3. The entire music lineup for the fest was …
