Santa swung by the Wisconsin Humane Society last week to make a special delivery: nearly 3,000 tennis balls for the adoptable dogs and puppies at the shelter. "He will be going from suite to suite, delivering the toys to the adoptable dogs and puppies at the Milwaukee Campus," according to a press release from the society. "The tennis balls were donated by Elite Sports Clubs in hopes of keeping the canines properly exercised and entertained as they wait for loving homes this holiday season." Some of the balls made their way up to Ozaukee County campus in Saukville, where plenty of puppies await a home. Currently available pets are showcased on the society's website. June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat month, an event celebrated nationwide after the spring season leaves lots of newborn kittens as well as adult cats looking for homes. After surviving some of the most devastating tornadoes in Kentucky in March, this one-eyed, three-legged dog eventually found his way to the Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus, and then Karen Meinert of Menomonee Falls decided to adopt him.
A three-legged, one-eyed dog who barely survived a devastating tornado in Kentucky landed in a loving new home over the weekend after Menomonee Falls resident Karen Meinert decided to adopt the animal appropriately named "Twister." "It’s the most wonderful thing I’ve ever been able to do," Meinert said. "He has proved himself to be a very wonderful sweetheart." Twister was found wandering through a field in West Liberty, KY, after a tornado ripped through the town on March 3, according to a press release from the Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus. The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. The shelter also offers a variety of events and classes for pets and their owners.
