PD: Man Asks 6-year-old to Join him for Ice Cream

Police are still not sure who the man was, though parents believe he walked past their house again a few days after the incident.

Parents of a 6-year-old Port Washington girl say a man who approached her while playing outside asking if she wanted to get ice cream again walked past their house a few days later. At 5:12 p.m. Oct. 28, the girl was playing in the 200 block of E. Antoine Dr., when the man approached her, police reports said. The man asked the girl if she wanted to go with him for ice cream. He is described as black, wearing a gray jacket and red or maroon shoes. Neighbors searched the area for the man, but did not find him. At 8:46 p.m. Oct. 31, police again received a call from the parents who believe the man who had talked to their daughter had just walked by their house. Sadly to say, our children are not safe left alone to play anywhere, in any community. My heart goes out to that little girl and her parents. I pray her parents, and all parents, will be more vigilant in the future and not allow their child to play unattended. It is just another sign of the times. Hit-and-Run Driver Smacks Man in Elbow

There are no suspects in connection with the minor hit-and-run said to have happened in Port over the weekend.

A Port Washington man blamed as the driver in a hit-and-run incident inside city limits is decidely innocent because his car was dirty. A 31-year-old man called Port Washington police at 7:23 p.m. Saturday to report that while he was standing near his vehicle in the 400 block of North Franklin Street a vehicle driving by hit him in the elbow, according to police reports. The man said the car did not stop — and though he was not hurt he wanted an apology. The man, joined by a friend, then searched the area for a car that looked like the one involved in the hit-and-run. They found what they believed to be the vehicle involved driven by a Port resident, according to reports. Police made contact with the 21-year-old Port man, who said he had …

More Stolen Items Reported in Port

Port Washington police have no suspects for items taken from yard, locked van.

Port Washington police received two reports of theft on Tuesday, and no suspects have been found in connection with the missing items. A 46-year-old Port Washington woman in the 1600 block of Parkway Drive reported that a two-foot panda statue had been stolen from her front yard at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. At 8:34 a.m. Tuesday, police also responded to a report from a 48-year-old Port man who said hand and power tools had been taken from his locked work van in the 400 block of West Grand Avenue. These thefts come just more than 10 days after a string of thefts from mostly unlocked cars, parked in driveways.
