Kwik Trip Plans Remain Idle After Changes to Wetland Ordinance Denied, Again

Kwik Trip officials spoke before the Saukville Board of Zoning Appeals on Thursday night in hopes of reversing a decision to deny a permit that would have allowed them to build on the location near a wetland.

Kwik Trip officials were unable to convince the Saukville Board of Zoning Appeals that another gas station near a wetland shouldn't be cause for environmental concern, causing the future of the land the company already owns to continue to linger in limbo. The Board of Zoning Appeals voted 3-1 to deny a modification to the ordinance that is preventing the gas station from being built because the location is less than 600 feet from a wetland. Board members Jim Cryns, Don Clark and Irvin Lusier voted in favor of denying the change, while Dan Sauer voted against the motion to deny. "Its not like we're talking 10 feet distance, it's asking for a more than two-thirds reduction in that setback (from a wetland)," Clark said, defending his decision…

Did you see Beck's has signs up asking people to sign a petition to oppose Kwik Trip? I think I'm done buying my gas there.   more ›

Kwik Trip Fights for Saukville Location

The company will appeal Saukville Plan Commission's decision in January to deny a permit that would have allowed them to build on the location near a wetland.

When Saukville officials made a decision in January to deny a permit Kwik Trip needed to build in the village, business officials vowed the gas station and convenience store would "eventually be here." Kwik Trip officials will stand in front of Saukville's Board of Zoning Appeals at 6 p.m. May 16 to appeal the Plan Commission's decision, according to an Ozaukee Press article. The commission had voted against a conditional use permit that is necessary for the business to build because the location is less than 600 feet from a wetlands area; Saukville's ordinance requires the 600-foot distance. "The village has been, for quite some time, changing the ordinances simply to keep us out," Hans Zietlow, director of real estate for Kwik Trip, told…

Don't really care if it would or would not. I am a believer in the free market. They should be given a chance to compete, and the Market will decide. Protectionism is a big part of what wrecked our downtown in Port.   more ›

Car Wash Plan for Kwik Trip Site Tabled

Kwik Trip officials say they will continue to work on developing the property — plans for a proposed convenience store, gas station and car wash — no matter how long it takes.

Not only have plans for a proposed gas station and convenience store been rejected in Saukville, but plans for a car wash were also pulled from last week’s Village of Saukville Plan Commission agenda, reported the Ozaukee Press.  Kwik Trip has been facing a large roadblock in launching a gas station and convenience store on land the company recently acquired in Saukville after the village's Plan Commission denied a conditional use permit last month because of environmental concerns. Plans were also submitted by Kwik Trip in 2011 for a 2,800-square-foot car wash. No action was taken on the car wash when the gas station was rejected and the item was tabled per Kwik Trip officials' request, reported the Ozaukee Press.  Hans Zietlow, director …

The commision claims they want the land for a more "high end" hotel or motel... What a joke. We already have a Super 8! LOL Beck's is a dump. The folks that sign these petitions and the Crooked Commision don't know what a "High End" convenience store like Kwik Trip is like. Have you ever shopped one?   more ›

Kwik Trip: ' We Will Eventually Be There'

The village of Saukville's Plan Commission denied the conditional use permit the company was seeking in order to build their store closer to a wetlands area than current ordinances allow.

Kwik Trip is facing a large roadblock in launching a gas station and convenience store on land the company recently acquired in Saukville after the village's Plan Commission denied a conditional use permit because of environmental concerns — but company officials say they plan to fight the decision made by the village. Four commission members voted against Bob Hamann's motion to "approve the (permit) because ... enough evidence has been presented here that any type of spill or encroachment on the wetland areas is not going to be significant."  While commissioner Richard Belling agreed, commissioners Mike Krocka, Roy Willhelm, Don Brock and Village President Barb Dickmann were not convinced it wouldn't be a risk, offering the dissenting …

There's still plenty of room for competition here. I frequent Beck's because they usually have a great supply of Kalypso lemonade and teamonade, and my kids really like that. If Kwik Trip doesn't carry those, Becks will remain a destination solely for that reason. If you have kids, you'll already know its frequently much more "convenient" to hit a convenience store than go all the way into one of…   more ›
