New State Budget Protects Middle Class, Future Generations

Spending plan will help improve the economy while continuing to address state's ongoing needs.

State Revenue Cuts Not as Bad as Others

The state's Legislative Fiscal Bureau released estimates of cuts to Port Washington and Saukville's state aid and pension savings.

The state’s Legislative Fiscal Bureau released figures Wednesday that estimate the amount of reductions for communities for the upcoming fiscal year. Overall, the nonpartisan organization that aids the state with financial information found that county and municipal aid will decrease by $96 million statewide in 2012, an 11.6 percent reduction from 2011. For Port Washington and Saukville, this means significant cuts in shared revenue.   Port Washington will see its $580,757 in aid cut to $443,303, according to the bureau’s estimates.  This is a 23 percent drop from 2011 to 2012. Saukville is predicted to see a 13.6 percent decline in aid from the state.  In 2012, the bureau expects the village to take in $331,325 in aid compared to the $383…

Firefighters and Milwaukee Dems Stand Together Against Budget Bill

Milwaukee-area firefighters and legislators held a press conference Saturday afternoon to speak out about Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill and the political soap opera that has played out in Madison over the past week.

Milwaukee-area firefighters stood in solidarity with other public employees at risk of losing their collective bargaining rights Saturday afternoon at a press conference hosted by Milwaukee-area Democrats. About a dozen firefighters joined members of the Milwaukee Democratic Legislative Caucus in sounding off against Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed budget repair bill in front of the South Milwaukee Firehouse Saturday. The bill, which would strip public employee unions of the bulk of their collective bargaining rights, is part of the governor's plan to fix a projected $3.6 billion budget deficit in state spending this year. The bill does not affect firefighters and other public safety workers, but firefighters have protested the bill in …
