$5K Donation Pits Port Resident as Top Fundraiser for Walkathon

Rachael Anne Pipp, a Port Washington resident diagnosed with mitochondrial disease at age 16, puts a lot of energy into raising funds for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation’s. Learn how you can help, too.

There's no stopping Rachael Anne Pipp, a Port Washington resident diagnosed with mitochondrial disease at age 16, who — in the last three months — has raised another $5,000 towards the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation’s. Pipp is the top fundraiser the Energy for Life Walkathon in Milwaukee on Saturday, and has gone door-to-door in Port promoting the event and collecting donations. "It was hard, tiring (but) I liked going door-to-door and just talking about it," Pipp said. The additional fundraising brings her total donations to UMDF to $8,000. Port Resident's 'Passion for Fashion' Sticks to a Good Cause

Rachael Anne Pipp uses her creative talents to create duct tape products to sell as a way to raise money for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, and recently opened a studio in Cedarburg to help others give to charity.

Since attending the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation’s annual conference about four years ago, Port Washington resident Rachael Anne Pipp has shifted a lot of her energy into raising money to contribute to the organization. It is a very personal cause for the 27-year-old Pipp, who was diagnosed with the rare disease at age 16, when a stroke landed her in a wheelchair for six years. She started a business called "Passion for Fashion," after participating in a craft class at the W.J. Niederkorn Library last fall — a class that left her with more than just a purse made entirely of duct tape. She carried with her the seed for a way to help raise money to research her disease, and took the first steps on a path that would help people …
