ReplyGrothman, don't you have anything better to do? If you are so concerned about the "nanny" state then why don't you repeal the existing laws in Wisconsin that prohibit liquor sales after 9:00pm, or that bars have to close at 2:00am.
And Darling, if you're so concerned about local government limiting citizens rights, why not look into all of the zoning and parking restrictions that your own River Hills has in place? Rich Republicans just love government controls in their own neighborhood.

Greg - The reason California is germane is that it too is a recall of a governor, this time though by the Republicans instead of the Democrats (Same country, same two parties). But Republicans here made it sound like it was something unheard of, and somehow just not the American way. But closer to home is the Tom Ament recall. How many Republican/conservative judges signed those petitions? We will never know because unlike the Walker petitions, they were never made public and were later destroyed.
As for an ethics violation, your link proves nothing. Borderline is your opinion and that of others, but that is not what the final ruling was.

Greg - Borderline unethical? Where do you find that conclusion? That is not what I read, they were cleared, no actions or reprimands were taken against the 29 judges for signing the recall petitions. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/07/26/us-usa-wisconsin-recall-idUSBRE86P00F20120726
As for California, of course its relevant. Maybe not specific to the issue of this judge, but in general. I'm just saying conservatives thought it was just terrible to use the recall process, that it was anti democratic trying to reverse an election, that we should let him serve out his term and just challenge him in the next election, that he should only be recalled if he did something illegal, etc, etc. We heard lots of arguments like that, except it was OK for them to do the same thing in California...

Greg - I guess you are right that you can tell one person apart from the address on the petition, assuming you know the person's address you are looking up, and aren't just going by the name. I hadn't look at the list recently, so I wasn't thinking of that. But you ignored my other points, that the recall isn't necessarily partisan since other Republicans could have run against Walker as well in the recall election, and that Republicans used the same procedure (successfully) to recall the Democratic governor in California, which led to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Greg - Yes, I signed it. If I used my real name here on Patch you could look that up. But, think about a few things. The list can be used to other way too, anyone who didn't sign it we can assume is a Walker supporter, or at least not an opponent. But woe to any Republicans that shares my rather common name...
And a technical point, a recall isn't necessarily partisan. Other Republicans besides Walker could have run in the recall election. Maybe some who signed it just really like Mark Neumann and never liked Walker. Who knows what Wolfgram's reasons were, but certainly the ones he gave were lame.
Finally, don't forget that Republicans recalled California Democratic Governor Gray Davis, that is how we got Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. So please don't pretend its only a liberal thing...

So, If this is how we choose our judges now, why not make all decisions based on if someone signed the recall? You know you want to...

ReplyI wonder if now Judge Voiland will (before making any rulings) continue to check the names of citizens and attorneys in the cases before him to see if they signed the Walker recall petitions?

ReplyWell, a .12 alcohol level would likely take more than two beers. And at that point also his perception of what "a lovely young lady” would be is suspect as well.
