His salary isn't "public" because the data base is for 2011-2012 and he was hired for the 201-2013 school year.

KHD - you don't have to sell me on the expense. I believe it is too much for the 20 minute change.

Citizen: The district does due diligence on the cost of bussing. The problem is with the few available options there aren't better prices. Chris we do not need someone like Don Pridemore acting as the State Superintendent. He knows nothing about education but will certainly continue to cut funding at the state level costing each community more and m ore in the long run. He would not be an advocate for any child in the state of Wisconsin. He is nothing more than a puppet for his party. (Much like many politicians these days). The tardy issue is not the reason for the change - test scores are. We will not know the results of this change for a couple of years so it will be interesting to see how things play out. I believe in an unscientific poll the taxpayers would not support spending the extra money without knowing where it is going to come from. That does not mean the change might not work. If it does work then the school board has done a good thing for the district. However in a couple of years when the data has been collected - will this issue be looked at again to see if the extra money is warranted? Jean - I too have looked at research on this topic and the improved academic gains are minimal at best. Time will tell if this works or doesn't work. Academically speaking that is.

A lot of people have brought up good points and my guess is that the school board has had many discussions over the course of many meetings during which all of these points have been presented. The problems facing GHS may or may not be addressed, or fixed as a result of this change. The tardy issue should be lessened with the time change but only of the students (and parents of the students who are abusing the system) are willing to commit to being responsible. That will not be affected by anything that the school tries. That is why it is called personal responsibility. The school is not turning a blind eye to the other issues that were brought up. As the larger society deals with more and more problems, those problems will find their way into the schools. As for cost - my question is simple. Where will it come from? The board has not addressed this. It is easy to say that it will come out of the budget but what will get cut or trimmed? The staff and tax payers have a right to know. RH - every district is "being held hostage" by the bus companies. That's what happens when anyone deals with a company that does not have any competition. No competition equals higher prices for the consumers. Most people would be amazed at the actual transportation cost schools spend each year. I hope the school sees the improvement in attendnace that it needs. As for the sleep benefit - I don't see anyway how the 20 minute change will have the impact that a few people have been clamoring for.

I'll bite NB2012. March 2005 gas prices are over $2 per gallon. September saw prices over $3 per gallon. February 2006 saw prices dip beloe $2 but immediately rose until they reached just under $3.50 by May. June 2008 gas prices broke $4 a gallon. Gas prices dropped later that year and have been up since. Some experts place a significant portion of the blame on the fact that gas is traded as a commodity meaning people are trying to make money for their portfolios. Of course none of this has anything to do with the topic at hand but it was a good way for you to change topics and bash our president.

Scott - being heterosexual doesn't automatically make you a pedophile either. Using your logic no one should be allowed to work with kids. The male lifeguard at a swim pool? He might be watching the girls a little too much. The women at the day care - gosh they might have to change a young boys diaper. Your logic seems a bit flawed, in my opinion.

As I sugggested on an earlier thread related to this topic, the large number of tardies represents only 4% of the school population. Please note that this aditional money must come from somewhere, cuts from another area of the budget or a tax increase. This is also not a one time fee. This will be yearly and bus rates are not going down. After 5 years it will have cost an additional $1 million dollars. There are pieces of scientific literature state that any increase in academic achievement is not statistically significant, which can be read as it doesn't make much of a difference. (pardon the non-scientific paraphrasing) Research also says that in order for the change to be meaningful the change needs to be drastic. Moving from 7:10 to 7:30 or 7:45 is not a drastic change. Moving from 7:10 to 8:30/9:00 is more likely the type of change that research calls for. If additional money is to be spent we should be able to see data from schools that have made the changes and the data that shows major improvement has occured. When other initiatives have been implimented at GHS teachers and administrators have made multiple visits to schools to see how these programs have worked. I believe that this is the same type of change that requires due dilligence: which includes scientific data linking improved test scores (significant improvement) as well as communification (and shool vistits) with schools who have made these changes to see what their experiences are. Just a few thoughts.

When was the last time 76th St. from Cold Spring to Grange was a quiet little community? I would tend to bet that the traffic from 76th St. has little impact on the actual village of Greendale as the downtown is several blocks east of 76th St. and I doubt the shoopers from that area takes shortcuts through the village. You could ask the village to put gates on the all of the entrances to the community if you are looking to keep people out.
