Victor's Plans to Open Again, With New Concept in Mind

Victor's Pier Street Shanty is back for a second chance after closing last fall, having spent a year trying to make a name for itself in Port Washington's restaurant scene, without enough success to stay open.

Owner Victor Cerda told Patch on Thursday the restaurant will re-open in time for Fish Day, but with a different concept in mind.

"We've changed the concept altogether," Cerda said. "We opened it the first time and it didn't work - I thought, well, I'd like to retool."

The restaurant doors closed in October and Cerda said the new concept evolved over the winter.

The new menu will be very basic, offering simply sandwiches served in paper boats - but the concept will be ever evolving and the sandwiches will soon prove themselves unique.

Compared to other sandwich places that do a good job in the city, Cerda said they'll have a full-service bar as another thing to set them apart.

Cerda said they opened Victor's the first time on the concept of being different and better.

"We're looking to do that still," he said.

The name isn't changing, he said.

The chef is a Port Washington resident. Cerda is still hiring for servers, bartenders and cooks and interested people can e-mail victorspierstreetshanty@yahoo.com.
