Cardboard Regatta Rescheduled to Sunday

Potential for rainy weather causes Cardboard Boat Regatta organizers to cancel Saturday afternoon's race.

Rainy weather Saturday morning has delayed Port's first Cardboard Boat Regatta until Sunday.

"From what I am seeing now (about the weather) β€” (it) doesn't look good for the boats or safety of the individuals," and e-mail from race organizer Dan Laurence said.

The race is the first of it's kind scheduled to set sail in Port Washington as part of this weekend's Maritime Heritage Festivalο»Ώ. The festival continues as planned through Sunday.

The Cardboard Boat Regatta will now begin with judging and viewing at about 1 p.m. Sunday near the inner harbor of Port’s marina. Boat races start at 2 p.m., launching in the boat launch area of the marina. Awards are expected to be given at 3 p.m.

Patch Local Editor Lyssa Beyer has been under the direction of her boyfriend, Nick Schmidt. Pictures of the process are attached to this story, and the Patch boat will make it's debut in it's final form at race time.
