Hawk Lodged in Grille of Van Still Recovering at Wildlife Center

The bird had been stuck in the grille since it was struck just north of I-43 until the driver arrived at her destination: the 1500 block of Portview Drive.

A in late March is still in intensive care and recovering after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the incident, according to the Ozaukee Press.

"With a dislocated shoulder, it’s always a challenge. When you’ve got a joint injury, technology is advanced to us as humans but it’s still neophyte for animals,” Pineview Wildlife Rehabilitation Executive Director Jean Lord told the Ozaukee Press.

The incident happened on March 25, when the hawk was lodged in the grille of a van owned by a 62-year-old Thiensville woman, according to a police report from the Port Washington Police Department. The bird had been stuck in the grille since it was struck just north of I-43 until the driver arrived at her destination: the 1500 block of Portview Drive.

Police responded at 8:48 a.m. March 25, and were unable to get the bird out of the vehicle's bumper; so, they called the Pineview Wildlife Rehabilitation center, who was also unable to remove the bird.

Eventually, the bird was removed by a mechanic, according to the police report. An Ozaukee Press article said the driver's car insurance company gave permission for the removal of the bumper. Staff at the Fredonia Vet Clinic cared for the bird.
