Learn About Cardboard Boat Racing on Saturday

The Cardboard Boat Regatta will go on again during the Maritime Heritage Festival in August, and this time there will be two versions.

The Cardboard Boat Regatta is on again for 2012.

After hundreds of people showed up in the crowd last year to watch cardboard boats race in the  area, event organizers decided to do it again.

Organizers will hold a captains meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Port Washington Yacht Club. Entry forms will be available at the meeting.

Beyond the build-ahead race that took place last year, this year organizers have added a "Build it that day" event for Sunday.

"This is a great team building event or challenge," organizer Dan Laurence said in an e-mail. "Each team will be given the same supplies to build a boat that day and then race it. Companies can put their logo on the boats for advertisement. How about different departments challenge each other? Sponsor a youth group to build and race a boat. All these will be discussed at the Saturday meeting."
