Man Vs. Hunger Relay Race Returns to Saukville

The July 27 event incorporates food and fun and benefits the Saukville Community Food Pantry. Teams of four can sign up before July 23.

After a successful — and food-filled — relay race last year, the Saukville Community Food Pantry is bringing back the Man vs. Hunger fundraiser event.

Registration is open for the July 27 event, and Food Pantry Executive Mark Geirach said the event promises an entertaining day for participants.

"The teams that took part last year had so much fun that they were already signing up for this years event by the end of the race," Gierach said. "We are encouraging businesses, civic groups, church groups, athletic teams and just a group of good friends to sign up to take part in this years event, it promises to have great laughs and some great competition for people of all ages."

Dawn Brooks and husband, Rob, from Between the Greens organized the event. Last year, it raised about $2,400 for the food pantry.

Teams should be made up of four people, according to the registration form. Each team member will have a particular food item and obstacle to complete:

  • First team member will enjoy a breakfast item at Rivers Edge and complete an obstacle course carrying an egg on a spoon, they will then bike to Firehouse Restaurant and tag off to the next team member.
  • Second team member will eat Habanero Ranch wings, then fill up a bucket with water using a Red Solo Cup from another bucket, then run to Messina’s Italian Restaurant and tag off the next person.
  • Third team member will push a meatball from one end of the sidewalk to the other using a straw, they will then assemble their own meatball sub, eat it and then bike to Between the Greens and tag off the final team member.
  • The fourth team member will eat a Reuben.
  • Then ALL team members must get a bean bag in the center of a Bean Bag Toss Game Board.
The event benefits the food pantry and meal site. Team entry fee is $40 and at least 40 items for the food pantry. Teams collecting more than $40 and 40 items will have time deducted from their score.

Learn more in the attached registration form; entries are due by July 23. With questions, call Brooks at 262-483-1139.
