Saukville Boy, 6, Nearly Drowns in Neighborhood Pool

A sister and cousin of the boy helped pull him to safety.

What was supposed to be a fun summer day for this Saukville family turned into a near tragedy.

Michael Phillips, 6, of Saukville, was in Pewaukee with his family swimming at a neighbors' pool, according to an Ozaukee Press article. His mother left to use the bathroom, and when she returned the boy's 14-year-old cousin was giving the boy CPR.

The boy's 9-year-old sister had pulled him out of the pool after she noticed he was floating, the article said. Emergency officials arrived and he was eventually transported to Children's Hospital in Wauwatosa. He suffered no permanent damage.

Officials in Port Washington have been putting an emphasis on water safety education since two tragic drownings in Lake Michigan in 2012, including a recent day-long event featuring training from theΒ Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project β€” an organization that formed with the "single goal" of saving lives, according to its website.
