Scared of a 5K? Try Out Saukville's Family Friendly Event on Saturday

The Saukville Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Saukville Scare 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, with proceeds benefiting the community. Participants can sign up on race day, and spectators are welcome to enjoy the pumpkin pancake breakfast, too!

With race preregistration already higher than it had been in the past two years for the Saukville Chamber of Commerce's annual event, organizers were apparently on the right track when moving the run/walk from the summer to the fall this year.

"In the summer months, there's so many events that go on — and we also know some of the races start slowing done once you hit the fall," said Sue Miller, the chairperson for the event. "We wanted to do something unique and different."

The Saukville Scare 5K Run/Walk starts Saturday at 9 a.m., with race day registration still available starting at 7:30 a.m. The event is the chamber's biggest fundraiser, raising about $10,000 last year, Miller said.

"We're excited about it," she said, adding that a portion of the proceeds will go to Saukville Elementary School's breakfast program, and the rest will go to the chamber's "community involvment efforts," according to the event flier.

The event takes place at Grady Park and includes free coffee from Starbucks as well as a free pumpkin pancake breakfast for race participants; spectators can join in on the breakfast for $3.

ZuZu Pedals, a cycling store in Port Washington, will be at the event, as well as  shoe company that helps with properly fitting your footwear, and a billy goat, all creating, "more of a family event," she said.

Race day registration costs $20. Costumes are encouraged, and pets are welcome, according to the flier. Learn more on the chamber's website.
