Weather and unexpected items underground have delayed the opening of Coal Dock Park until likely late July.

City Engineer Rob Vanden Noven said the crews have unburied old foundations and other items that have caused delays in the project.

That on top of the high amounts of rain postponed the planned mid-June opening.

"I never would have dreamed it would take this long to build this much," Vanden Noven said.

A dedication with be held Sept. 28-29 for the park, and a soft opening will celebrate the new park once the weather lets it see completion, Vanden Noven said.
