Break-In Reported at North Shore Hair Design

Signs of forced entry found on door to shop.

Employees arrived at , 116 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington on June 7 to find the register emptied of the cash left inside the night before.

Police responded to a report of the theft at 10:17 a.m. Employees directed police to pry marks found on the business' door, indicating a forced entry, according to the police complaint.

"The pry marks indicate that an unknown person(s) had wedged some type of instrument with a blade such as a larger screw driver into the door jam and pushed back the latch assembly gaining access to the business," the complaint said.

Owner Sharon Waranka said she had closed up the business at about 2:30 p.m. June 4, the Saturday of Pirate Festival, according to the complaint. She had left about $100 in the register.

Attendees of the festival would have had easy access to the building that houses North Shore Hair Designs, as it is the same building in which is located, and the coffee shop was open for business that day.
