Motorcyclist Cited in Downtown Crash

The motorcyclist said he did not see any vehicles coming when he pulled out to make the left hand turn, and a witness said it was clear neither vehicle was going to be able to stop.

A motorcyclist who landed in the hospital after an accident earlier this week was cited for failure to yeild in the incident.

Port Washington police officers responded to the scene at 2:28 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of North Wisconsin and Beutel streets, according to the police report. The motorcycle was in the intersection with the driver β€” a Port resident β€” lying next to it, and ambulance personnel were caring for the man.

Officers asked the motorcycle driver what happened, and he mentioned buses that turned down Beutel street from Wisconsin street, the report said. He was at the intersection to turn left onto North Wisconsin Street, and did not notice the southbound vehicle as he pulled out.

The driver of the second vehicle, a minivan in which there were five children passengers, said she and the motorcyclist slammed on their brakes but neither vehicle was able to stop, the report said. The motorcycle had "considereable front-end damage," and the minivan had damage to its front passenger sideΒ  as well as near the passenger door.

A witness on scene said he saw the motorcycle making the lefthand turn, and "it was apparent that neither party was able to stop," the report said.
