UPDATE: Sheriff Says No Officers Hurt in Squad Car Crash on Highways LL and 33

Damages to vehicle likely to cost several thousand dollars.

Ozaukee County Sheriff Maury Straub said the squad car crash on Wednesday night was an unfortunate accident caused by slippery conditions.

"Unfortunately, one of ... my deputies lost control of the squad on an icy roadway and struck a guard rail," he said in an e-mail. "There appears to be several thousand dollars damage to the squad. The deputy was shaken up, checked out at the hospital and released."

The Ozaukee County squad car was the only car involved in the crash on Highways LL and 33.

Sheboygan County squad cars were called to the scene Wednesday to write the report. The Sheboygan County dispatch center said an agreement exists between sheriffs that a neighboring community write the reports for crashes involving squad cars to avoid bias.
