Port PD: Driver Says Pedestrians Should Look Before Crossing

On one hand there's the everlasting lesson of looking both ways before you cross the street, but on another hand whatever happened to pedestrians having the right of way?

A Port Washington woman called police at 8:19 a.m. Oct. 22 to report nearly being struck by a car while crossing westbound on Holden at Walters with her son, according to police reports.

Police found the driver and spoke with her. The woman felt the pedestrians should have stopped at the corner to check for cars, and that they did not, the report said.

• Partay: Police received a complaint about loud noise at 2:07 a.m. Oct. 21 in the 100 block of South Spring Street. Upon arrival, 16 area teenagers and a 20-year-old man were found in the house, according to police reports. They were apparently having a party of sorts, because police cited the 20-year-old for loud/unnecessary noise as well as providing alcohol to underage persons. State charges were also recommended for possession of THC and drug paraphernalia against the man. The teenagers received a variety of citations, including underage alcohol consumption and curfew violations.
• Knock, knock: A resident in the 1100 block of Portview Drive called police at 8:07 p.m. Oct. 21 to report people banging on their door, according to police reports. When police spoke with the 20-year-old man and 27-year-old woman, the subjects told police they were looking for someone who owed them money and didn't realize that person no longer lived there.
• That's weird: Port police recieved a call from a Port man at 11:35 p.m. Oct. 23 of a suspicious man outside their house in the 700 block of Milwaukee Street. The Port man said he approached the subject who was hiding behind a tree, and in doing so the man fled the area. The subject was described as "tall, with short hair or bald, wearing a blue sweatshirt and gray pants," the report said.
