4 Candidates to Faceoff for 3 Trustee Spots on Saukville Village Board

Four trustees will face off for three opening positions in the April elections for the Saukville Village Board.

Incumbents Mike Krocka, Joe Caban and Dave Maglio have all filed for re-election in the spring race; newcomer Rhonda Kamenick also filed papers by the Wednesday deadline, throwing a bit of competion into the race.

Saukville Village Board operates as an "at-large" election, meaning the top three vote-getting candidates will take the open spots, village official Mary Kay Bauman said. 

"Saukville is a picturesque place to raise a family and live, but we also need businesses not only to frequent ourselves, but to draw people to this area," Kamenick said in a press release announcing her candidacy. One of the big concerns for Kamenick is the recent amendment to the village ordinances prohibiting diesel fueling within 1000 yards of an interstate.  This amendment has led the company looking at purchasing the land east of I-43 to say they will most likely be looking elsewhere to build a Kwik-Trip, the press release said. 

"We want to be attractive to businesses, and all that they can bring to an area including jobs and tax revenue. Communities to the south have benefited greatly from developing the I-43 corridor; we should be doing the same," she said.

Saukville Village President Barbara Dickmann's spot is also up for election; she was the only candidate to file the necessary paperwork by the deadline.

The Saukville village president makes $4,000 annually, while village trustees are paid a $1,000 stipend. Both positions also earn $2,280 stiped for meeting attendance; all members are allowed an excused absence from one regular meeting as well as a finance committee meeting before seeing deductions in pay of $85 per regular meeting missed, and $10 per finance meeting missed.
