Port Council Defers Coal Dock Sublease Review

A special session is tentatively set for Jan. 25.

Review of lakefront coal dock sublease agreements between the city and We Energies was deferred for a week, as final documents were not ready for Tuesday's  Common Council meeting.

A special meeting to review the subleases is tentatively set for Jan. 25.  The council agreed to a special session as City Administrator Mark Grams will not be available for the next regular council meeting.

City Attorney Eric Eberhardt recommended the special session, citing Grams' historical knowledge of the property and the complex issue.

"Mark brings so much to the discussion that it frankly would be an error to discuss this without him,” Eberhardt said.

The sublease for the coal docks will allow the city to make that area available for public use, but the city first must review the terms of agreement between We Energies and the state.

Port Washington Mayor Scott Huebner requested council members check their schedules so that the Jan. 25 special meeting can be confirmed if the documents are ready by that date.
