Road Crews Fighting Frozen Snow Making Slippery Patches on Roads

Area recovering from 10 inches of snow on Sunday; winter weather advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Just when it looked like winter was over, Port Washington and Saukville have turned white again.

As much as 10 inches of snow fell yesterday in the Port Washington-Saukville area, according to a National Weather Service observer. Six inches fell in Cedarburg, while 3 inches were reported in Mequon, the service said.

Port Washington Street Commissioner Dave Ewig said the road crews have been taking care of the streets, but slippery patches still exist on much of the roads.

"We did plow everything this morning and we salted, but because of that fact that this was a very wet, heavy snow β€” the snow froze upon impact," he said. That means road crews are fighting a hard surface of frozen snow that is going to take a while to break up before they can plow it all away again.

The Ozaukee County Dispatch reported accidents in Port Washington and Saukville, but had no specific numbers to release at this time.

Additional frozen drizzle and snow accumulations are forecasted in the area, while the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
