Stroebel Wins 60th District Seat

Republican Duey Stroebel faced Democrat Rick Aaron in the special election race for the 60th Assembly District seat.

Republican Duey Stroebel won more than 75 percent of the Ozaukee County vote and easily defeated Democrat Rick Aaron on Tuesday in the race to be the 60th District representative in the state Assembly.

Stroebel replaces Mark Gottlieb, who stepped down as the 60th District representative to become transportation secretary for Gov. Scott Walker earlier this year.

Neither Stroebel nor Aaron returned voice messages left Tuesday night.

In Port Washington, 1,535 voters hit the polls, with 1,035 voting for Stroebel and 497 voting for Aaron. In Saukville, 484 voters headed to the polls, giving Stroebel 362 votes and Aaron 121.

In Ozaukee County as a whole, Stroebel recieved 6,953 votes, taking 75 percent of the votes over Aaron's total of 2,287. In Washington County, Aaron came in with 70 votes, falling short of Stroebel's 378 total votes.

In all, Ozaukee County saw a 23.8 percent voter turnout.
