Port Students Place in Top Half of Division During Cross Country Championship

Three Port Washington High School students participated in the Cross Country State Meet on Saturday, competing on an individual level.

Two of the three Port Washington High School students who participated in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association's High School Cross Country Championships on Saturday placed in the top 50 percent of their divisions.

Senior Jason Marhal finished 22 out of 190 boys in Division 1 with a finishing time of 16:13.42 in the 5,000-meter course. Sophomore Eagan Norman placed 91 out of 190, with a finishing time of 17:03.04.

Senior Bianca Benkley placed 114 out of 190 girls in Division 1, with a time of 16:04.96 in the 4,000-meter course.

The meet started an hour late because of lingering frost on the course, with "almost ideal conditions by the time the first race began at noon," according to a press release on the WIAA's website.
