Port Mayor Sports Packers Pride

Mayor Scott Huebner holds up the winning end of a friendly wager with an Illinois Patch site.

Minutes in to a seemingly normal Common Council meeting at the Port Washington City Hall, Mayor Scott Huebner took a moment to change things up a bit.

Huebner slipped out of his regular suit jacket and into a Packers jersey.

"I entered into a wager with the New Lenox (IL) mayor," Huebner recalled, also remembering the undoubted victory the Packers took home that day. Wednesday's Common Council meeting marked the first formal meeting since the Bears-Packers game.

Huebner decided that, plus the recent Super Bowl win, was reason enough to sport the jersey.

New Lenox, IL, Mayor Tim Baldermann had told Port Washington Mayor Scott Huebner he'd be lucky when the Packers lost to the Bears.

"At least when you lose you get to wear decent colors for a day as opposed to that pea soup green and gold," Baldermann had said.

But, as everyone knows, the Bears kicked the bucket and the Packers went on to win the Super Bowl.

Baldermann , draping a Packers shirt in front him at his meeting β€” something Huebner found a bit disappointing.

"He didn't even wear it," he said, adding that if the Packers had lost, he would have been game to put on that Bears apparel.

Wisconsin Patch sites also teamed up with Pittsburgh-area sites for the Super Bowl. The losing Pittsburgh-area officials have a meeting next week, and proof of their end of the wager is expected shortly after.
