Caught Red-Handed Stealing From Her Neighbors Car, Police Say
The woman originally had an interesting excuse for the car owner, but later changed her story with police.
She was caught red-handed stealing from a neighbor's car, but at least she had a good excuse.
A Port Washington resident contacted the police department at 10 p.m. Thursday to report the incident involving her neighbor, according to police reports.Β
The resident told police she parked in the lot of her apartment, left her car windows open and ran inside, according to reports. While in her apartment she looked out the window and noticed her neighbor, a 35-year-old Port woman, rummaging inside her car.

The resident went to the parking lot and asked her neighbor what she was doing; the woman told the car owner she was looking for animals, according to police reports. Not wanting to get into a confrontation, the resident got into her car and drove off, reporting the incident to officers after being encouraged to do so by her landlord.
Officers followed up with the 35-year-old woman, who admitted to stealing some change from the vehicle, according to reports. However, this time she told police she wasn't sure why she entered the vehicle.
